Much has been said about a particular Mar Roxas quote during the last installment of the PiliPinas Debates 2016.

It was his reply to a question thrown by fellow candidate, Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, who asked Mar if his path to the presidency has been "too narrow" given his elitist background.

Supposedly quoting the Batman, the former DILG secretary answered, "It is not important how you came to this world. What is important is what you did with your life. And my life over the last 20 years has been a public record," which drew applause from the audience.

As if we didn't see this coming, this sound bite prompted netizens to get creative and even come up with "Batmar."

The problem was, Mar might have cited the wrong character. According to some inquisitive netizens, it wasn't the Batman whom he borrowed words from, but rather, another figure as dark as the Dark Knight—but not really him—as pointed out in this clip:

"I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant; it is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are," was the Pokémon Mewtwo's exact words in the animated film Pokémon: The First Movie.

We'll take that, as long he's not quoting Pikachu...
