By now you probably have heard the sad news that Angel Locsin will no longer star in the upcoming Darna movie by Star Cinema. The Kapamilya stunner decided to pull out of the project after learning that she had incurred a back injury—a disc bulge in her spine—while rigorously training for the role. #ironic

She even posted an emotional letter on Instagram on October 27 which reveals the real reason why she had to leave the superhero movie.

It was a painful and hard decision to make, but we had to prioritize my health and welfare. Because of that, despite the two year preparations and rigorous training, I regret to inform everyone that I can no longer play Darna :( Production has to start filming already, and my body is not in the right condition to do anything too physically strenuous. It is only fair for production as I don't want to be the cause of delay or problems because of my recurring back injury. Rest assured that I am still undergoing treatment so I can come back stronger and hopefully, be your superhero again :) Thank you ABS CBN for looking after what's best for me and my health, especially to Tita Malou Santos. Thank you Tito Boy Abunda, Roxy Liquigan, & the rest of the Tonight with Boy Abunda team for giving me the chance to explain my situation in your show. To all Darna fans, I want to thank you for all the love and support you've given me. I will forever treasure that. And I hope and pray that you will give the same amount of love and support to the new Darna. Rest assured that ABS CBN has already chosen the perfect person to fill in Darna's boots. :) Again, thank you😘 (photo taken April 2012)

The post has already garnered over 26,000 likes and almost 2,500 comments as of this writing.

Though we'd really love to see Angel kick ass while wearing the most iconic two-piece costume in Philippine pop culture one more time, we fully understand that her health is top priority right now. We wish you a speedy (and full) recovery, Angel!

She may be out of the movie but according to the actress, her rightful replacement has already been chosen by ABS-CBN. She's still not spilling the beans or giving us a juicy hint on who will fill Darna's boots, though.

With that in mind, we handpicked seven stunning ladies who we believe fit the role (and the costume) of the Pinay superhero and become the perfect owner of the mahiwagang bato.

COLEEN GARCIA

After wowing the nation with her hot bikini photos, Coleen has been shedding her sweet innocent side by doing sexy projects. She surprised us with her intimate scenes in Ex With Benefits, and she's also part of the fierce Pasion De Amor trio together with Ellen Adarna and Arci Munoz. In terms of career, she's currently sizzling.

The It's Showtime mainstay is definitely one of ABS-CBN's hottest female stars right now. That's already a big reason why they should tap the dimpled-beauty for the role.

Another thing that gives Coleen the edge: she's abs-tastically fit! Imagine her flaunting her physique inside the skin-tight Darna costume. Quite a sight, right?

NADINE LUSTRE

Nadine has successfully veered away from being just-a-Kathryn-Bernardo-doppelganger to become a legit teen superstar. Besides, she can do more than kill people with kilig, she can also heighten your senses with her timely sensuality.

The On The Wings Of Love star has also proven that she can act and work the camera, and she can carry big scenes without faltering.

Lastly, the 21-year-old actress has that distinct Pinay look. That should give more authenticity to the Pinay superhero's character.

JULIA MONTES

The Kapamilya network has been banking on Julia's appeal for quite some time now. And if the network really wants to solidify her superstar status then letting her play Darna should do the trick. It's timely, it's reasonable, and we're 100-percent sure she'll look really nice in a Darna costume.

The only problem we're seeing here is that she may be too busy with her Doble Kara tapings. But then again, Madame Charo can definitely fix that.

MAJA SALVADOR

Maja has been scorching the dance floor (and our bandwith) by twerking here and there. Not even someone as experienced as Coco Martin can handle her "majastic" moves. The only thing Maja hasn't been burning lately? The silver screen.

You're Still The One didn't generate much noise, and the only role we can really remember her from was when she played Popoy's rebound girl in One More Chance (which is already turning eight next month).

We all know how active and flexible she is, so all those fight scenes will be child's play for the 27-year-old actress.

ARCI MUÑOZ

The multi-faceted artist has been a major draw in every TV station she signs with. Unlike her Pasion De Amor co-star Coleen, Arci has been a beautiful enigma to us. You just don't know what she's going to do next.

Being chosen as Ginebra San Miguel's newest calendar girl also proves just how much the public is enamored with Arci's gorgeous combination of sweet looks and killer curves—which is one of the prerequisites for being considered for the Darna role.

Plus, they can also have her band Philia do the soundtrack. Brilliant strategy.

MEG IMPERIAL

Speaking of candy-looks and deadly curves, no one can slay that definition much better than Meg Imperial. The Moon Of Desire actress (and Ipaglaban Mo favorite) has just finished shooting the Maria Ozawa-led Nilalang movie, and hasn't been doing much lately except for flooding our Instagram feed with her gorgeous posts.

And yeah, not only does she have the looks, she boasts the acting chops to do well in the role as well.

LIZA SOBERANO

No one can deny the star factor that the 17-year-old actress brings. Millions of fans will definitely flock to the theatres if ever Liza gets the nod—making the movie an instant box office hit. That alone makes her an interesting prospect.

However, in our honest opinion, she's too young, too mestiza, and too "classy" to play the role of the simple Narda. Still, we imagine it'll be kind of amusing to hear her say the most girly version of the "Darna!" yell.
