While not exactly a darling of the critics, the Resident Evil movie franchise continues to thrive. The fourth film in the series, Resident Evil: Afterlife, opened last September 10, and came out number 1 in the U.S. box office over the weekend.

In the lead role once again is Milla Jovovich, playing the part of a blade-wielding, science experiment, Alice, who continues her quest to put an end to the mega-evil Umbrella Corporation.

Milla Jovovich, based on her enduring combination of hotness and zombie-busting movesalone, could, alone very well make for a blockbuster.

But it could also be this: zombies and 3D are currently, wildly appealing things to most of us. And the combination of the two only proved to be an even more potent formula.

The numbers don’t lie, people. The movie was able to rake in over 70 million dollars worldwide in a mere two days, which is already 10 million dollars more than it cost the movie to make.

We’re sure Paul W.S. Anderson, the film’s director, is now smugly grinning at all the critics who contributed to the film’s 20% “rotten” rating at film review aggregate site, rottentomatoes.com.

Fresh or not though, sometimes we just need some mindless zombie fun, and Resident Evil: Afterlife should handle that well. And to get you ready for that, here now are the silliest scenes we have seen in zombie flicks.

Bill Murray pretends he’s a zombie and gets shot in Zombieland (2009)

The lesson: never pretend to be a zombie during a zombie apocalypse. It’s just not funny. Bill Murray who plays Bill Murray in this zombie parody flick had to learn it the hard way.

Next: Jay Leno, and what it feels like to kiss zombies!
