When the Japanese version of Ring was first released in 1998, the idea of a ghost crawling out of the television set was the stuff of nightmares.

Case in point: Sadako's death stare and grotesque nailless fingers prompted us to leave the lights on before going to bed.

Who would've thought that hair-raising piece of pop culture could end up being funny as hell?

Someone recreated the iconic scene as a promo for the upcoming sequel of the horro franchise, titled Rings.

Judging from the petrified looks on the victims' faces, safe to say the schtick is still effective.
