The Curious Case is like Forest Gump only edgier and wicked. That’s because it’s written by Eric Roth (who also wrote Gump) and directed by no other than David Fincher (Zodiac, Panic Room). That said, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a strange story (originally thought up by F. Scott Fitzgerlad) about a dude born as an old man who grows younger as he ages in years. It’s told beautifully, masterfully. Fincher is obviously adept at filmmaking and if it weren’t for his masterful storytelling—and the impressive-enough effects—the three-hour long movie would’ve have been a major snooze fest.
But the storytelling is awesome and thus, we come out of the film alive, awake, and yes, just a wee bit teary-eyed. Cate Blanchett is a sight to behold. Brad Pitt, he’ll make your girlfriend happy doing what he does best. And like Forest Gump littered with characters here and there, the many curious characters who pepper Button give it enough animation to leave the audience entertained for an afternoon and discussion over half a cup of coffee afterwards.
