Trailer Spotting

With March and the summer months on the horizon, we seek the movie house’s cold embrace more than ever. Of course, we’re not about to plop our asses down gawking at some dumb movie; we intend to plop down at some not-so-dumb movie that we chose ourselves. Below are the trailers of these flicks, all of which will be showing in March.

Gentlemen, get the popcorn poppin’ and check out what these first two weeks of March have in store for us movie addicts.

Trailer Spotting Stoker
Starring Nicole Kidman
Directed by Park Chan-wook

What’s Going On: We see a father playing with his daughter while Nicole Kidman speaks in the background with what initially sounds like a heartwarming spiel. Then the speech takes a turn for the wacko as we find out that Nicole is emotionally and mentally unstable. The dad dies, and a new man arrives in Nicole and her daughter, Mia Wasikowska’s life—to whom both are mysteriously drawn. A love triangle in the family? The chilling music says there might be more to it than that.

Why see it: The psychological thriller is directed by the same Korean dude who helmed 2003’s masterful suspense flick Old Boy. We don’t know what it is about creepy families in movies, but the chills these serve always seem to hit closer to home.

Showing: March 1

Trailer Spotting Django Unchained
Django Unchained
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, and Christoph Waltz
Directed by Quentin Tarantino

What’s Going On: Black dude in chains, Jamie Foxx, is freed by cowboy/bounty hunter Christoph Waltz. In return, the bounty hunter asks the unchained one to help him hunt down a pair of brothers he obviously must hate a lot. The bounty hunter promises not just freedom but also the chance for revenge at Leonardo Dicaprio who has apparently taken the black dude’s wife. In between all that, a lot of blood is spilled, some of it on pretty white flowers.

Why see it: That it’s the new film by Quentin Tarantino should be enough of a reason for any man who appreciates a dirty talking, bad-ass motherfucker of a movie. If you like hearing the “N” word a lot, this might just be the movie you’re waiting for.

Showing on: March 13

NEXT: A party movie, the journey back to OZ, and the new flick to scare your girlfriend with
