Not the least bit scared of your local aswangs? We can’t really blame you since Filipino horror culture has traditionally depicted the gut-devouring creatures in a comedic fashion rather than to go all-out terrifying.

Tabi Po, an award-winning graphic novel by Mervin Malonzo which has been adapted to a TV series, is about to change your mind about aswangs.

Cignal TV launched the rather impressive two-minute trailer, which starts by showing an aerial shot of the Metro that shifts to a man seemingly sucking the life out of a cigarette. A grim voice over then commences: “Kung alam ko lang na ganito kawalang kuwenta ang magiging buhay ko sa panahong ito, noon pa, pinatay ko na ang sarili ko. Ako nga pala si Elias. Ito ang aking kuwento.”

In the morbid graphic novel, Tabi Po tells the tale of Elias, a newborn aswang, as he learns the struggles of living among people in the scenic towns of a nineteenth century Philippine province.

The series was Directed by Paul Alexei Basinillo and its cast includes AJ Muhlach (Elias), Adrian Alandy (Tasyo), FHM April 2017 cover girl Phoebe Walker (Sabel), and Jourdanne Castillo (Salome).

Tabi Po is set to air on the Sari Sari Channel on Cignal cable TV this October 27 at 8 p.m.
