Marvel maniacs have another reason to rage in excitement as X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sequel to both X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: First Class, hits cinemas today. The star-studded extravaganza melds the cast of the earlier X-Men outings with the reboot.

There’s a lot of jumping timelines, super-powered action sequences, and a handful of new characters contributing to the chaos, which might be a bit too confusing for the average, non-comic book reading audience. And although we know most of you are just excited to see J-Law clad in nothing but blue skin, here’s a fun primer and refresher to help you enjoy the mutant madness even more!

GoT x X-MEN

Game of Thrones geeks, rejoice! Peter Dinklage (aka everyone’s favorite mischievous imp Tyrion Lannister) plays Bolivar Trask. A military scientist by profession, Trask is responsible for creating the Sentinels, the giant robots hell-bent on eradicating the mutant community.

THE SENTINELS: NEW AGE NAZIS

It’s the year 2023, and extinction threatens the mutant population thanks to these robo-Nazis. Because most of them aren’t sentient beings, they’re maximized as a form of weaponry, making them supervillains that are not to be messed with. Below are some of their properties and capabilities that leave shit stains even on Professor X’s and Magneto’s pants.

Technologically advanced
They’re state-of-the-art weapons of genocide, meaning they weren’t just put together in the basement of some bored weirdo. They’re military grade, streamlined, and designed to get the job done.

Use of energy weapons
Annihilation courtesy of these badass mofos can come in the form of an energy beam shot out through their pyro-palms. Heat rays and plasma beams are a fatal force.

Use of restraining devices
Because sometimes, mutants need to be captured instead of swatted like flies.

Flight
High-flyers like Storm and the Archangel better watch out, because despite being at least three-stories tall, their jet-powered feet can propel them into the air.

Mutant Detection
They’ve got long-range homing skills when it comes to detecting mutants. Even if the mutant isn’t a fur-filled smelly husk of flesh like Beast, these bloodhounds can smell them a mile away.

Impervious to damage
They wouldn’t be effective if one berserker barrage from Wolverine could end it all. Though they aren’t immortal, they’re pretty indestructible.

NEXT: Hooray for chicks in costume!
