La Famiglia Little Italy
Mezzanine, Promenade, Greenhills, San Juan City
Open from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. (Monday to Friday) and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. (Saturday to Sunday)
No matter how familiar you think you might be with your favorite hangout, you can still discover great finds and tasty eats, a lot of which have been hiding in plain sight. Case in point: Not all Greenhills regulars know that at Promenade's mezzanine level is an Italian restaurant that whips up tasty pizzas and pasta, as well as other Italian-inspired dishes, and in amazingly large servings, too.
La Famiglia Little Italy has been around since 2014, but new dishes and updates on their signatures are more than enough reason to visit.
The mozzarella stick also has an IG-worthy cheese pull!
One of their crowd-favorite starters, the Antipasti Misti (P565) gets an upgrade, with La Famiglia trading zucchini for mozzarella sticks. Mozzarella is always a surefire hit, and La Famigila seasons their sticks with a special Italian spice that adds an herby kick to each bite. The platter also comes with deep-fried breaded shiitake and button mushrooms, and perfectly tender calamari. Don't forget to squeeze the lemon over the squid for a touch of brightness.
The Olivia (P565) doesn't only look vibrant and picture-perfect; this pizza is also full of fresh flavors from all the toppings you and your friends could possibly crave: Pepperoni, mushrooms, smoked, ham, olives, and fresh tomato slices. But La Famiglia spices things up with a pretty unusual addition: Slices of hard-boiled egg. Don't knock it until you've tried it; the egg amps up the taste of each slice with its rich, subtly savory flavor.
While La Famiglia offers an extensive selection of pasta, the Prosciutto Cotto (P645) emerges as a sure winner. This pasta features spaghetti in a tomato-cream sauce with Italian sausage, and smoked ham, bursts of spice and salinity in each forkful. An order can easily feed a group of four, and with the simple yet classic flavor of this pasta dish, everyone would be pleased—plus, every pasta order comes with free pizza of your choice.
Aside from pizza and pasta, La Famiglia also offers other Italian classics, like the wonderfully creamy Gamberetti Rosa (P475). The risotto is stewed with tomatoes and cream, and fresh shrimp adds a distinctive briny flavor and bite to your every spoonful.
The standout from the new items is easily the Thermidor (P875). You can consider this treat-yourself fare with large prawns stuffed with provolone, parmesan, and spinach, the freshness of the seafood still shining through the richer elements. It's easy to fall in love with baked cheesy seafood, with their gooeyness and tasty umami flavor, and La Famiglia's version could become a new favorite.
One of the hardest things about eating out with friends or family is finding a place that'll please everyone. Italian is always a go-to for those situations; they may be hidden, but, with their large servings and no-fuss, simply delicious flavors, La Famiglia might just become top-of-mind for your next foray to Greenhills.
