Sneaker obsession is real.

Whether you're a basketball player or a fashion enthusiast, almost every man with a budget has been bitten by the sneaker-craze bug. In the country, hundreds of sneakerheads line up to cop the latest drop and thousands of fans double-tap the newest shoes posted by their idols on their social media accounts. The hype, as they say, is real. Just like a mad game of hoops, ice-cold beers, and juicy burgers, the unrelenting fascination for the shoe game binds men together.

And in a move to tap the burgeoning kicks hysteria of Filipinos, restaurateur Katrina Matriano, along with her husband and friends, decided to open Sneaks & Snacks, the first sneaker shop and burger bar in the country.

Located on Maginhawa Street in Quezon City (they’ll be opening a new branch near Trinoma Mall soon), Sneaks & Snacks is a haven for sneakerheads and food lovers alike.

“My husband and I are sneaker collectors," says Katrina Matriano, CEO of Sneaks & Snacks. "We also love food. That’s why we decided to combine both of our passions—that’s how Sneaks & Snacks was born.”

She adds: “Sneaks & Snacks was built to respond to the growing community of sneakerheads and food enthusiasts in the country. This is a sneaker and burger bar for everyone to connect and collect. Wala pang ganitong concept sa Philippines, so why not do it!”

Sneaks & Snacks started in October of last year. The restaurant is decked out with kickspirations—the floors have quotes perfect for your #shoefies, the walls are filled with pictures of their customers and their favorite sneakers, and the ceiling is lined with shoe boxes, sneakers hanging from them. Even their menu is specially made for shoe addicts.

They serve rice meals, pasta, appetizers, salads, dessert, and alcoholic drinks—most of which have unique, sneaker-inspired names. But what they are most proud of are their huge, juicy burgers—all made from 100 percent Angus beef. Instant favorites are OG, Quickstrike, Cheezy Boost, Air Macs, and the Stan’s Meat.

“One of our partners was a chef," Matriano shares. "So all the recipes here are gourmet-worthy—but for a cheaper price!”

The Cheezy Boost (P269) is made from 1/4 lbs. of Angus beef patty, melted 4 cheese, tomato, lettuce, and cheese.

The Stan's Meat (P289) is made from 250g Angus beef patty, tomato, lettuce, cheese, and caramelized onions and shitake mushrooms.

The Quickstrike (199) is made from 1/4 lbs. Angus beef patty, bacon, tomato, and cheese.

Burger prices range from P179 to P699. The most expensive one is the Bigfoot Burger, a 10-inch monster weighing 1 KG and is good for sharing. According to the owner, the Bigfoot Burger is the resto’s version of a birthday cake. Guests usually order this—complete with a birthday candle—during special celebrations.

Speaking of celebrations, Sneaks & Snacks also has a mini jamming area complete with a TV set, videoke machine, speakers, and guitars, which customers can use for for free.

And if your gang is the type that prefers privacy: “You can  reserve Sneaks & Snacks for events or parties as well," Matriano explains. "The rate is P4,000, good for 3 hours, consumable.”

The most important part of the resto is the sneaker shop near its counter. From favorite brands (Nike, adidas, Vans, etc) to high-end designers (Louis Vuitton, anyone?), Sneaks & Snacks caters to various tastes. They also have the latest drops (which you can have reserved days before the release) and rare finds that are looking for a pair of feet to give them a home.

We usually buy shoes from abroad then bring it here. Sinasabay namin sa pagdagdag sa collection namin.”

Here are some of the kicks we spotted during our visit:

“The aim of this restaurant is to gather all sneakerheads in the country. We want them to have a sanctuary where they can express their love for shoes, and a place where they can meet like-minded people—all while eating mouth-watering burgers and drinking ice-cold beers!”
