If you’re feeling a tad bit claustrophobic in the crowded bars and restaurants along the streets of Manila, why don’t you try hanging out right above it for a change? Rooftop bars are a great getaway from the stressful elements of city life. There’s no shortage of options for you to take wither, and with no less than the stunning city lights glistening down below (yes, including those from the trail of cars stuck in the traffic), rooftop dining can be quite the relaxing experience. Here are seven of them you can visit for some fresh and breezy respite.
1) Sky Deck View Bar
Bayleaf Intramuros, Manila
You don’t have to wait until the evening to enjoy the splendour of Manila. If you’re in the Intramuros area, you can catch the sunset in Manila Bay—an experience that’s always unique and different and definitely worth witnessing, especially with your significant other.
Cocktails, good quality wine, tapas, and impressive local cuisines are available on their menu. Enjoy this wine and dine experience as live music further sets the mood.
2) Skye W HighStreet
Roofdeck W Highstreet, BGC
Skye in W is one of the more iconic rooftop bars in the city. It affords you a view of the spectacular skyline of The Fort, sure to put you in an amiable mood. If you want to enjoy a quiet dinner here, it’s best that you arrive early so you can get a good spot either in the pool or lounge area. Come a bit later and you’ll be right in time for when it transforms itself into a hip and happening night club.
They serve tapas, pastas, Spanish dishes like Pollo Iberico, Callos, Paella, and sweet desserts like Turrones and Crema Catalana. Pair that with their tasty bottles of wine or down their fun cocktails and fancy liquors.
3) Straight Up
Seda Hotel, BGC
Here’s another one that’s just inside the BGC area. Striaght Up is a roofdeck bar that actually gives you an option between al fresco dining and indoor lounging. If you’re bringing a bigger group, or would like to have a more private gathering, you can reserve a private room.
You can choose from a wide variety of tapas on their menu, from cold to carne, and seafood tapas. They also serve steaks, pastas, salads, and of course, sweet desserts to cap off the delectable indulgence. Their bar list is impressively accommodating too, offering anything from chilled juices to coffee and teas, to beer and cocktails that can help you unwind even more.
3) The Nest
From morning to night, there’s always a reason for you to visit The Nest. They serve a hearty breakfast buffet to start your day right, from as early as 5:30AM to 10AM. Omelettes, bacon strips, different kinds of breads and pastries, and healthy fresh juices are there to power up your day.
Later on at night, you can enjoy a different dining experience as it takes on a livelier ambiance in the evening, with select wines and other drinks on the ready for your enjoyment. Adding to the laid back ambiance is live music courtesy of their resident—and very talented—pianist. You can give him your request if you would like to hear a particular tune, too.
4) The Roofdeck Bistro
Times Square Building, Examiner cor. Times Street, Quezon City
This roofdeck bar sits unassumingly atop a low-rise building in a mostly residential area, otherwise not known to have bars in the immediate vicinity. Once at the Roofdeck, you’ll be welcomed by a very comfortable and relaxed vibe, with decorations that set up a beachy ambiance. They usually have bands and musicians playing live. It’s very affordable too—a P600 budget for two people will get you a lot.
5) 71 Gramercy
If high-end is what you want, high-end is what you’ll get at 71 Gramercy. It’s literally at the 71st floor of this premium real estate building nestled within Makati Avenue, so if it’s the city skyline you want to see, you won’t be disappointed.
This is perfect if you’re out to dance the night the night away. You can have dinner too if you want, but just make sure to come at an earlier time if you want to enjoy a more quiet vibe. Their US Angus Rib Eye Steak is a must-have, but their Chilean Sea Bass is also something that’s not to be missed. Their selection of drinks is also nothing to scoff at, from wines to liquors and exciting cocktails.
6) The Penthouse 8747
Lepanto Building, Salcedo Village, Makati
In the heart of the Makati Central Business District is this rooftop bar on the 22nd floor of the Lepanto Building in Salcedo Village. This section of the CBD is known to be particularly tranquil at night once all the cars and commuters have gone home for the day. To those who stake it out for a while longer, this venue makes it worth the wait.
It features casual dining but with a touch of elegance, especially with its clean and modern interior design. Appetizers, steaks and sides, meat platters, and desserts are readily available on their menu. As for the drinks, you won’t be disappointed, as they offer more than just the classic cocktails. They've got a lineup of unique concoctions for you to sample.
