Years after the tumultuous ending to his NBA career, Allen Iverson finally announced that he’s walking away from the game for good. Brothers, A.I. has officially retired from basketball.

Iverson, an 11-time NBA All-Star and the 2001 NBA MVP, was one of the brightest NBA stars of the post-Jordan era. "The Answer" was known for his scoring prowess, posting career averages of 26.7 points and 6.2 dimes per game despite only being 6'0" tall. He was also famous for his explosive killer crossover that broke hundreds of ankles–even those of His Airness, Michael Jordan himself.

What all one-on-one kanto players think they look like

Basketball aside, A.I. also shaped the NBA with his unconventional character and attitude. He kept his hair in braids and cornrows and wood “hood-approved” clothes off the court. His “I don’t care what you think about me” type of character partnered with his exciting style of play made him the alpha dog and poster boy of the NBA, idolized by millions for a number of years.

But after uninspiring and unsuccessful stints with the Detroit Pistons, Memphis Grizzlies and a failed comeback with the Philadelphia 76ers, Iverson saw his star power quickly diminish. It seemed like all the hard falls he suffered, the injuries he battled, and the hard fouls he took finally took its toll on A.I. And after he failed to get an NBA contract at the start of the 2010-2011 season, he brought his remaining talents to Turkey–but that also ended disastrously.

Then more serious mishaps followed. Like his being suspected of child abduction. The dude was even reported to not have enough money now even for a cheeseburger.

If only there was an  Angel's Burger in Philly. A.I. could
afford their buy-one-take-one cheeseburger

But we really don’t want to remember A.I. that way. After all, he’s still one of our basketball heroes. He may be leading a screwed-up life now, but we all respect how he balled. We wish him a better, less lawsuit-filled and more cheeseburger-rich life.

And now it's time for FHM.com.ph’ s tribute to Allen "The Answer" Iverson!
