Basketball can be nerve-racking for some players, especially during the dying seconds of a game and with both teams just one basket away from winning. Yesterday, Jermaine Marshall learned that the hard way when he made a monumental mistake by scoring on the wrong basket at the end of regulation.
Marshall’s team, Kifisia, faced Aris in the best-of-three quarterfinals of the Greek Basket League. Aris claimed victory in their first meeting, and another win would propel them to the semifinals.
Up 95-93 with five seconds to go, Kifisia squad appeared to have the game in the bag after a player from Aris missed a freethrow. Kifisia got the rebound and passed the ball around to milk the clock. The frantic passing however confused Marshall, who, after receiving the ball, laid it in on their own basket.
The basket went in before time expired, giving Aris two points, and extending the game by five more minutes. Aris won in overtime, 108-103.
