And just like that, the mega boxing fight we thought would never happen is a step closer to reality!

pacquiao mayweather

In an interview with Showtime Boxing commentator Steve Farhood, Floyd Mayweather Jr. said he wants a piece of Manny Pacquiao in the ring. But unlike before when he issued only vague statements about the super bout, the pound-for-pound king even threw in a date for good measure: May 2, 2015.

"We are ready. Let's make it happen. May 2. Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao. Let's do it," said the flamboyant fighter.

And being the trash confident talker that he is, the man called "Money May" also sneaked in a few early jabs during the interview: "He's desperate. I wanted that fight a long time ago. I'm just waiting on them."

"I know that he is not on my level, the fans would love to see the fight, and of course I wanna go out with a bang. So let’s make this fight happen. Manny Pacquiao, Bob Arum, you guys have been ducking us for years,” he added.

For his part, Manny Pacquiao has stated time and again that he wants the fight to happen. In fact, after his dominant win over Chris Algieri, our Pambansang Kamao said the fans deserve a Pacquiao-Mayweather bout. "It's time to make that fight happen," declared Manny.

So there, both fighters clearly want it! And while we agree that a lot of stuff should be ironed out first (e.g. money matters, logistics), this development is certainly a step in the right direction.

Here's to hoping this isn't just another PR stunt. Boxing gods, make it happen!
