The year 2015 hasn't been a kind one to boxing.

Its biggest star has already announced his retirement from the sweet science (that's you, Floyd) while its most popular athlete has already set his eyes on his home country's 2016 senatorial race. (Are you really sure about that, Manny?) Their much-awaited bout was kind of a bust, too.

Aside from the sport now lacking a true superstar—a legitimate king of the hill— it also hasn't produced enough bouts that produce the one thing that can make the most casual of boxing fans happy: a cold-blooded, fight-ending KO punch.

Thankfully, that drought ended on Sunday, October 11, when light welterweight contender Gabriel Bracero KO'd fellow upstart Danny O’Connor in devastating fashion during the first round of their rematch at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Massachusetts.

Bracero, the one in red trunks with gold details, only needed 41 seconds to dispose the man-bun-sporting O'Connor. The Brooklyn, New York native smoothly parried O' Connor's one-two combination, and then unleashed a brutal overhand right counter straight to the, erm, fighting hipster's chin. (No amount of awesome-looking facial hair can save you from that, bud.)

That punch is kind of reminiscent of the career-ending counter the Pacman gave Ricky Hatton back in 2009. (Also, if you're a big Hajime No Ippo fan, you might realize that it's also the same deadly punch Ichiro Miyata has in his arsenal.)

The two have already met each other in the ring back in April 2011 in Texas—a fight which Bracero also won via an eight-round unanimous decision. Two of O'Connor's three career losses (he has 26 wins) came courtesy of the Brooklyn boxer.

With this impressive win, Bracero (24W-2L) is now rumored to be one of the strong contenders to challenge WBA light welterweight champion Adrian "The Problem" Broner in his next title defense.
