With all due respect to Manny Pacquiao, we'll keep this one short and sweet: Brandon "Bam Bam" Rios is scary.
We're not saying that the 27-year-old Mexican is supah stronger and faster than our Pambansang Kamao, but if we're talking about someone who could really, really bring it to Manny this Sunday, we vouch for the guy. The prospect of stepping into the ring with a boxing icon has no weight on Brandon, that's for sure.
"To everyone who thinks I'm an easy opponent for Pacquiao, a walking punching bag, this is my fight," Rios tells the LA Times. "I want it. I'm ready. I'm young. I'm not going to let it slide through my fingers. This is what I do. This is my destiny."
Oh, he's ready, alright. T0 those who have yet to believe Brandon's hype (and we totally get it if you don't; he's facing Manny-frigging-Pacquiao, for heavens' sake), here are five simple facts you ought to know about our boxing idol's latest adversary...
Brandon and his trainer Robert Garcia were the same guys who got flak for making fun of Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach's tremors (it's widely known that the legendary boxing coach is suffering from Parkinson's disease) heading into Manny's fight with Antonio Margarito back in 2010. And then there's his camp's altercation with Freddie, which took place in Macau earlier today. Things are getting personal here!
Shortly after Brandon turned pro, he went back to his hometown (Garden City, Kansas) to track down a man who had offended his then-girlfriend. He broke the man's jaw, paid $15,000 worth of medical expenses, and got locked up in jail for three months. He claims he has lost count of his arrests for fighting, stealing, and drinking. #MedyoBadBoy eh!
