Pinoy ballers are known for playing in grimy flip-flops and dingy courts, which didn't really matter as long as they get to shoot hoops and talk smack.

On Friday, the launch of the new app Nike Hyper Court coincided with the unveiling of several basketball courts in the country that feature murals of the biggest NBA superstars like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. Five neighborhood cement playgrounds were given a creative makeover, in sync with the training innovation.

Dallas-based doodler Arturo Torres, who illustrated Shea Serrano's book Basketball (and Other Things): A Collection of Questions Asked, Answered, Illustrated, is responsible for these sick comic-book renditions of everyone's hardwood heroes and their life-size personalities.

Powered by Google, the Nike Hyper Court is an "on-court interactive experience that unlocks exclusive basketball content, through free data," and serves as a guide to putting in pro-level work at the designated courts.

"This app will help a lot of players learn the basics and how professional athletes train. Basketball is very simple; all you have to know are the simple moves to make yourself very effective and efficient on the court," Nike endorser Kiefer Ravena tells FHM.

Going back to the aesthetic side of this original project, each basketball court artwork has a story behind it:

Kevin Durant

Where: Comembo Covered Court, Makati

Arturo meant to capture KD's versatility and energy.

Kyrie Irving

Where: YCL Covered Court, Quezon City

He depicts the new Celtic as a whirling dervish running circles around defenders.

LeBron James

Where: Titan Love Court, BGC

Arturo thinks the King is like the God of Thunder, Thor, emphasized by lightning and flight.

Kobe Bryant

Where: Ususan Court, Taguig

Basically, this is his idea of the Black Mamba's calm demeanor and cold-blooded approach in-game.

Russell Westbrook

Where: Scarlet Homes Covered Court, Parañaque

For his personal favorite, Arturo likens Russ's passion on the court to bursting out of volcano.

Ballers simply need to connect their smartphones to the local network via the Nike Hyper Court Wi-Fi and sign up when prompted. They will then be able to access exclusive training videos, coaching tips and athlete content
