Authorities seized Paul Alvarez over the weekend, after the former PBA superstar dubbed as 'Mr. Excitement' was allegedly caught red-handed during a pot session in Quezon City.
According to QC police, they were only supposed to serve a warrant of arrest against Alvarez for a complaint regarding slight physical injuries but instead caught him doing drugs.
InterAksyon reported that he and his two companions wre in possession of five sachets of shabu (approx. 2.13 grams), five used aluminum foil strips, and other drug paraphernalia.
It's always shocking to see athletes, whom we view as model citizens, involved in major controversies. But the case of Alvarez wasn't the first time a local sports personality figured into a hot mess.
Check out the others below:
1) Dorian Peña (2017)
Just last month, another ex-PBA player was arrested in a drug entrapment operation conducted by authorities at Merryland Village in Mandaluyong. Peña has denied the charges.
2) Kiefer Ravena (2017)
Earlier this year, suspect Kristoffer Monico Ng was nabbed after allegedly trying to extort money from the UAAP basketball standout for alleged nude photos that were leaked online. Ravena, for his part, apologized for making the "mistake" of sending nudes.
3) Manny Pacquiao (2016)
The Pinoy boxing legend is known as a genuinely nice and humble person, so it came as a shock when he made derogatory remarks about same-sex couples. It cost Pacquiao his multi-million dollar Nike endorsement deal.
4) Jamelle Cornley (2013)
Who could forget this rampaging ex-PBA import? Apparently, he lost all his cash after a night of fun with three females. He reportedly knocked down a cop while being apprehended, and it took around 10 people to restrain him in a jail cell.
