With local eSports heroes TNC Pro Team making waves globally, gaming has officially become a career among Filipinos, which is probably why less mothers are telling their kids, "Kaka-computer mo yan."

The Games and Amusements Board have already issued licenses to professional gamers. A university has even introduced a Dota 2 program. See how far we've come from cutting classes to play Counter-Strike and staying up until the wee hours in an internet cafe...

The boom of competitive PC gaming has paved the way for certain figures like TnC to be recognized in their field. And 2018 will be no different—the following eSports teams will be instrumental in turning the Philippines into a force in the international arena this year:

Rating: 1,010 | Rank: 122 (global), 27 (Asia & Oceania) | Lineup: witz*, Derek*, SixTwoDee*, crasykid*, Papichulo*

Little is known about the relatively young squad, other than emerging as champions of regional league Operation Havoc last year. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is still growing in the country, so expect Rampage to only live up to their name moving forward.

Manila Eagles

Rating: 1,015 | Rank: 85 (global), 18 (Southeast Asia) | Lineup: Kupz-Yukz, JLC, Trebor, Marky.PH, Raux

The international League of Legends community may have earned a toxic reputation, but that hasn't stopped the multiplayer online battle arena from attracting Filipino gamers. Team Manila Eagles made headlines after they came out on top of the Pro Gaming Series at Rampage 2017 held here. They are participating in the ongoing Pro Gaming Series Spring Split.

Clutch Gamers

Rating: 1,063 | Rank: 35 (global), 7 (SEA & Oceania) | Lineup: MaGe-, Skylark and Afr0moush (so far)

Guess we've had bigger success playing the sequel to Defense of the Ancients. The Philippines is one of the better eSports nations at a world level, and among the powerhouses in Southeast Asia. Clutch Gamers—currently shuffling its roster—is just a single rank higher than another PH group, Happy Feet (1052).

Rating: 1,089 | Rank: 26 (global), 4 (SEA & Oceania) | Lineup: LeumiK-Kimo, Karl., yAj*,, Grimzx

The veteran crew (founded in 2008) was the first Pinoy contingent to get eliminated from last year's The International (TI) showcase. XctN has won numerous minor tier tournaments and fared well in premier competitions, consistently placing among the best 20. They have also branched out to first-person shooter CrossFire with a separate division lineup.

Rating: 1,200 | Rank: 12 (global), 1 (SEA & Oceania) | Lineup: Sam_H, KuKu-QQ, Raven., TIMS, Armel

Despite consecutive losses in the recently concluded ESL One Genting, the TI6 darlings keep their status as the country's hottest pro gaming team. A first-place finish, at the expense of Execration, qualified them for the upcoming Bucharest Major—the perfect follow-up to a strong 2017. Bannering an All-Filipino team for the first time since god knows when, don't be suprised if TnC cracks the global Top 10 this year.
