And, as expected, Acer has officially launched the Aspire S5 here in the Philippines along with other goodies although we'll focus on the new ultrabook as we deem it as one of the biggest star of the show.
Actually, Acer claims that the Aspire S5 is the thinnest ultrabook around, measuring at just 15mm thick. Now that's anorexic! Don't let its slim bod fool you though, this one is positioned as a high-end device by the Taiwanese-titan and, as such, it has the goodies to battle it out with its other top-tier rivals. It sports an Ivy Bridge Intel Core i7 chip, 4GB of DDR3 memory, a 13-inch 1366 x 768, 200-nit LED display, and 256GB of solid-state storage.
On the graphics side of things, the Aspire S5 also comes with Intel HD 4000 graphics which comes means this bad boy can also handle many of today's games. Another impressive thing about this ultrabook is the ports or, rather, where they are hidden. At first you might think the Aspire S5 lacks some standard ports. Here's when a small albeit interesting trick happens; just press a button and a compartment (or hub) on the backside will open up revealing an HDMI, USB 3.0, and even a Thunderbolt slot. Nice! As an added bonus and to elicit more pogi points, Acer decided to go with a magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis which is an upgrade to the more "plasticky" frame last year's Aspire S3 has.
So, how much will this bad boy go for here in the Philippines? P65,000. Yep, it's a lot more expensive than its predecessor but, hey, its also more premium. We're hoping it's also as good or even better as advertised to justify that not-so-cheap price tag.
