And it looks like the smartphone parade this summer is still rolling on as Alcatel has just launched a couple of its own offerings here in the Philippines. Techies, we introduce you to the One Touch Glory X 918N and Sapphire HD 995, two Android smartphones that could be good news for local geeks on a budget. Now, lets get to know them more, shall we?
Alcatel One Touch Glory X 918N
Remember the OT Blaze Glory 918N? Well, this one is its slightly upgraded sibling. The X 918N looks very similar to its predecessor, although it's also a bit thicker owing to its replaceable covers feature. On the inside, this one's doesn't offer much of a change from the Glory 918N. It comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a slightly upgraded 3.2-megapixel camera, a 650MHz chip, and 200MB of RAM. And, just like with Alcatel's other offerings, the X 918N comes with dual-SIM capability, making it one of the few Androids to have it.
Alcatel One Touch Sapphire HD 995
We'll be honest here, the Sapphire HD 995 (shown in too image) is actually the one we were looking for during the launch and, boy, it is an interesting device. This is perhaps the Alcatel handset with the largest touchscreen at 4.3 inches. It actually reminds us of a cheaper version of the likes of the Sensation XE and Galaxy S II in terms of display size. Anyway, as for the innards, it comes with a single-core 1.4GHz CPU that's partnered with an undisclosed amount of RAM (probably 512MB), and a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus for imaging. Just like the X 918N, this one has Gingerbread on board although we're not sure if it will also have an update to Ice Cream Sandwich. Based on out short hands-on with it, the Sapphire HD is very light, which is a bit surprising given its size. Oh, before we forget, we're told Alcatel slapped a sort of custom UI on the device which makes it look a tad different especially on the Home Screen where a 3D tray where you can place apps and options for easy access can be found.
Pricing and availability
Both handsets should be available starting next month at local Alcatel stores around the metro. The One Touch Glory X 918N will retail for P6,199, P200 more expensive than the Glory 918N while the Sapphire HD 995 will go for P13,999.
