Huawei might not be one of the sikat handset brands but that doesn't mean it lacks the smartphone goodies to keep you interested. Case in point: the Chinese company's three new pambatos that are good-looking, have decent hardware and the necessary wireless connectivity chops to keep you always in the loop—even at blazing 4G speeds! That last part made us go all "Whoa!" because of these reasons. Anyway, here they are...
Huawei Ascend P1
The Ascend P1: a smartphone we had a fun time, um, fondling. Why so? Well, this baby is just 7.68mm thick making it one of the thinnest handsets we've gotten our hands on. And it looks swell, with a sleek and shiny facade showing off an "S" profile that not only increases the points in the handsome category, it also makes it easier to handle.
On the inside you've got a pretty nice specs-list bannered by a dual-core 1.5GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, microSD card slot for up to 32GB of storage, and a 8-megapixel main camera (1.3-megapixel secondary). It also boasts of a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen (960 x 540 resolution) for top-notch eye-candy. We had a go viewing videos, apps, and photos with it and we can say we're really impressed. There's 3G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, too. Okay, 4G's missing, but that shouldn't matter much seeing this one's a beaut inside and out.
Huawei Ascend P1 LTE
Starting off the 4G parade for Huawei is the Ascend P1 LTE. This one, like the Ascend P1, has the combo of a dual-core 1.5GHz chip and 1GB of RAM. It also is pretty slim at just under 10mm thick. For your on-the-go Kodak moments, you've got an 8-megapixel cam with dual-flash (1.3-megapixel secondary) with HD video recording. Like the Ascend P1, display size is at 4.3-inches (960 x 540 resolution).
3G, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi are all accounted for, plus 4G! Yep, this one's capable of mobile browsing speeds of 100Mbps, that's way faster than most home broadband connections (as long as there's enough signal, of course).
Huawei Ascend D1 LTE
This one also has 4G LTE! The Ascend D1 LTE is also quite slim at just 8.9mm thick and packs an 8-megapixel shooter with a 1.3-megapixel front camera. Under the hood you've got a dual-core 1.5GHz chip and 1GB of RAM, 8GB internal memory, 3G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, and HD 1080p video recording.
The display stretches to 4.5-inches, which is quite large, and is in H-effing-D (1280 x 720 resolution), too! But what we're really liking is its textured back cover for easier grip.
Pricing and availability
Of the three, only the Ascend P1 has an official SRP (P19,890). The prices of the other two are still TBA and we're told will depend on the telcos that will carry them. Expect these 4G-packin' handsets together with the Ascend P1 to land on local store shelves within the month.
Note: The 3 handsets come with Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Update to Jelly Bean is probable but there's still no timeline yet.
