Oculus Rift, tabi tabi ka muna.

The relatively uncharted world of Virtual Reality gaming welcomes a new challenger with Sony's own VR headgear, "Project Morpheus," revealed last March 19 at the Game Developers' Conference (GDC) 2014 held at Moscone Center in San Francisco, USA.

The debut of the device is a culmination of the rumors swirling about Sony's plans to get into the VR game. What Sony CE Worldwide Studios boss, Shuhei Yoshida, unveiled on-stage is an early, albeit good-looking prototype that clearly has the Playstation DNA built into its sleek design. The future PS4 peripheral is said to be the culmination of over three years of work.

And it's work that's not yet complete. The intriguing Morpheus is still full of mystery, but below are some of the details that we know about it so far:

1) It has the numbers to make us geek out

Project Morpheus has a 1080p display and 90-degree field of view, which just means you'll have to swing your head about to get a full view of the digital surroundings.

It features positional head tracking, and offers 360-degree tracking in conjunction with the Playstation Camera. These two features work in tandem to track our movement going forward and backward.

Another peripheral, the PS Move controller, is seen by Morpheus as a virtual object, which could then translate into a sword, a mace or whatever in the game world. We don't fully understand what all these tracking features mean but it sounds like all these technologies will be needed for our analog bodies to register in a digital game world, and for our movements to be tracked.

2) It features 3D audio

Project Morpheus features a 3D-like sound effect that it achieves through binaural audio.

Take a look at this video, and see what binaural audio sounds like:
