Director Tetsuya Nomura, who created the original FFVII and is now working on the remake, shared the images of the game during the Magic Monaco 2017 event over the weekend.
The first image shows buster sword-wielding protagonist Cloud Strife having a difficult time hiding from gunfire after being spotted by a Shinra soldier.
The second image features what seems to be the first boss fight of the game with the Guard Scorpion, something that so far remains faithful to the original gameplay.
There’s also some talk about the image above regarding the apparent return of the ATB bar which eagle-eyed fans spotted on the lower right.
With this reveal, Dark Pixel Gaming did a detailed analysis on what the possibilities are for the FFVII remake’s battle system.
The pair of new images come a month after new art featuring Cloud and nemesis Sephiroth were released to commemorate the 20th anniversary of FFVII.
There’s no news yet of a release date for its remake but Square Enix has previously announced that it will first be available on the PlayStation 4.
In the meantime, here’s a trailer of the game Square Enix teased way back in 2015.
