And now it can finally be said: Flappy Bird is coming back to app stores in August! Hear that? That’s the sound of a million fingers twitching in anticipation!
In an interview with CNBC, the game’s creator Dong Nguyen confirmed Flappy Bird’s return. In case you've just returned to society after decades of living the hermit life, Nguyen took the plug off his game last February 9. The reason? He said he was simply getting fed up with all the publicity and pressure his hit game brings.
The decision to remove Flappy Bird from app stores was certainly a shocker. We’re talking about a game that reportedly was generating $50,000 (over P2 million) in revenues every 24 hours. Wild!
What can we expect from the resurrected version of the game? Without spilling specifics, Nguyen said it will have new features, as well as a multiplayer option. We don’t know how that will work, although we’re thinking maybe Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connectivity will play a role. One thing’s for sure though: soon you won’t be alone in cursing the game’s kamot-ulo visuals and über-hard gameplay.
Speaking of gameplay, Mr. Nguyen also said it will be “less addictive.” We don’t know what he means though. Maybe he will make Flappy Bird’s already crappy graphics even crappier? Or maybe he will make it less difficult which is—weird as it may seem—one of the things that made the game damn popular.
