Gran Turismo 5 better step its game up once it gets out of the pits, because at this point in the race, Forza Motorsport 3 has arguably claimed pole position. From an amazing collection of both old classic cars to modern marvels to near-perfect car physics, the game simply has everything that an armchair driver could hope for.
Coming in out of every twist and turn, you feel the weight of the car as the tires try to keep a grip on the road, and you try to prevent oversteer. The physics presented in Forza Motorsport 3 are excellent. Coupled with responsive controls, Forza Motorsport 3 generously offers you to really take command of a car like you would a real car.
There are no delayed responses whatsoever, and every time you crash into a stack of tires, it’s primarily your own fault for not having the proper driving skills. [firstpara] Likewise, you’ll learn to appreciate just how much work the developers put into it, as every one of the 400 or so cars in the game has a very specific feel and ride. This might be as authentic as it gets, aside from owning the actual cars of course. And since around 98% of us probably won’t own a Ferrari anytime in the near future, Forza Motorsport 3 is one of the more realistic ways that we’ll be able to tame Italy’s prancing horse, ironic as that may sound.
Expectedly, almost every car part and spec could be modified as you please. But you can skip all that stuff, too, and just race. Modifying your cars and perfecting its settings as each race demands, is a big part of the fun though; it will likely satisfy those who obsess over the little things that determine a car’s performance.
You are also given the choice to toggle driver-assist technologies such as antilock brakes and stability control before every race. So if you’re feeling like you want a real challenge, just turn off all of those technologies, and test your armchair driving skills to the limit. The customizability of the game makes it fun for both beginners and hardcore race sim fans.
Forza Motorsport 3 is outstanding, and a necessary purchase for everyone who loves cars and racing games. We’d go on and blabber more about it, but really, there’s only one thing you have to know: Forza Motorsport 3 is the new king of sim-style racing games.
