This Halloween season, you gotta be prepared for the worst (and we don’t mean the crap costumes you’ll see everywhere or children nagging you for candy) as it’s also the time for ghouls, goblins, and ghosts. Who knows when the undead apocalypse will start? Sure, it's probably not going to happen but you can never be too sure.
And so we thought of the fierce female video game characters who could easily lay the smackdown on all sorts of nightmarish creatures (while still looking good, mind you). These are the fine (virtual) ladies we want to be on our side when evil arrives.
And before you whine about the absence of poster-girl-for-action-heroines Lara Croft, well, yes we deliberately left her out of this list to give others a chance. After all, Miss Croft is kind of a given anyway.
Now enough talk! Read on for our picks!
TIFA LOCKHART (FINAL FANTASY VII)
Image via Thelifestream.net
Tifa’s ability is based on the Monk character class, which makes her one fine fighter. Her physical stats (no, not that, you perv) fare better than her magical stats. She’s got fists of fury that can punch the (undead) life out of zombies, vampires, or werewolves.
JULIA STARLING (LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW)
Image via Widowslure.com
This cheerleader hails from a family of zombie hunters and has equally attractive sisters. She also wields a mothereffin' CHAINSAW to rip the undead to shreds. She’s like a cross between Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Ash Williams from the Evil Dead. Groovy!
SAMUS ARAN (METROID)

It was certainly a pleasant surprise to find out that underneath the bulky space armor was one badass lady. Hell, she’s a one-woman army who took down an alien race! Zombie infestation would be a cinch for her.
Image via Giantbomb.com
This brainy gal defeated a self-aware homicidal A.I. by merely using a space-warping Portal Gun. She could probably use her weapon to lure zombies off a cliff. Now that’s thinking with portals!
ADA WONG (RESIDENT EVIL)
Image via Comicvine.com
This highly trained assassin wields all sorts of weaponry from guns to crossbows. Plus, she’s got prior experience fighting the undead all while wearing a form-fitting gown. She’ll even engage you in flirty banter mid-slaying. It’s no wonder she’s been giving Leon Kennedy blue balls since Resident Evil 2.
AYA BREA (PARASITE EVE)
Image via Giantbomb.com
Due to some genetic anomaly brilliantly conjured by her developers, Detective Aya has superpowers which allow her to face off against grotesque mutations on equal ground. She also possesses healing abilities so no need to stop by the local hospital to fix injuries.
CHUN-LI (STREET FIGHTER SERIES)
Image via Powderroom.kinja.com
Well, it goes without saying that every female character in a fighting game series is an action girl—especially this cute, iconic, bun-headed martial artist. Her classic spinning bird kick could mow down groups of baddies in a jiffy while looking sexy as heck.
QUIET (METAL GEAR SOLID V: PHANTOM PAIN)
Image via Shacknews.com
Quiet is an effective stone-cold sniper whose skin can blend into the surroundings making her a formidable opponent of the undead. She heads into battle scantily clad ’cause she can only breathe through her skin (suuure, whatever you say, game developers).
ALYX VANCE (HALF-LIFE 2)
Image via Deviantart.com
Alyx is one of the main players of the Resistance in the game. She’s got mad tech skills to hack into enemy systems and strong combat abilities to save protagonist Gordon Freeman when he’s in trouble (which happens pretty often). She’ll even joke around with you to ease the tension while nailing some headshots.
FAITH CONNORS (MIRROR'S EDGE)
Image via Mirrorsedge.wikia.com
The girl has parkoured and brawled her way to rebel against the government. Trust her to do the same when evil creatures arise. If you hang with her, your weak ass will be doing some major cardio for sure. Oh yeah, she can also teach you how to parkour so you won't be left behind when shit happens.
