Ah, Facebook quizzes. They’re fun, stress-free, and most importantly, they take away your boredom for a couple of minutes. But did you know that these seemingly simple and innocent sources of enjoyment might actually put your personal information at risk?

According to NBC News, hackers are using Facebook quizzes to get to know their targets more.

“It seems harmless but you never know who is really asking you for that information,” said Sri Sridharan, an official from the Florida center of cybersecurity.

“The more they know about you, the more ways they can trick you into doing something like clicking on a link that you should not click,” he added.

Meanwhile, some clickbait experts said hackers use these quizzes to hijack accounts and lure in others to share their personal information.

Apparently, this is done by disguising malicious links in the quiz. Some of these links will connect to your Facebook account and extract data while others can load up malware to your device without you even knowing.


To prevent becoming a victim, the Florida center of cybersecurity has some suggestions on how you should go about with your online habits:

- Always be cautious of signing in
- Treat your email address like a bank account
- Don’t always trust links from friends
- Participate in quizzes from reputable FB pages or companies

Now, we’re not saying don’t have fun, but better watch out for these quizzes because these can potentially give hackers access to your email and bank accounts.
