Take a look at this pretty little thing:

No, it's not a crystal ball. That thing is actually a speaker, a darn good one from Harman/Kardon called the Harman/Kardon Aura. This one-speaker set-up is capable of pumping out great sound (it has 60 watts of total power, enough to fill a big room without sounding rattle-y); enhancing the looks of any apartment (its groovy neo-modern design makes it an art-piece, a decorative furniture as much as it is a gadget); and is compact enough for condo residents who don't have much space (it's 10.8 inches tall and has a diameter of 8.2-inches).

It also has a bevy of connectivity options including a 3.5mm AUX port, an optical port, WiFi, and wireless options through DLNA, Apple's AirPlay, and good ol' Bluetooth.

The last bit is, of course, our favorite part. This being our first time to get a hold of a bluetooth speaker system which sounds as good as the wired ones we've had, we put the thing right smack in our living room. Now, it's hard to imagine life without it.

These are our reasons why we wouldn't ever want to go back to a system that keeps us leashed...

1)   We can fire it up as soon as we wake up.

Using our smartphone, we can turn on and connect to the system via Bluetooth quickly the moment we wake up. If you're one of those people that need their music right away in the morning to wake them up, a wireless set-up is a god-send.

2)   We can set our shower soundtrack to our heart's content.

Having the ability to control the music from the bathroom lets us sing the songs that we really want to sing in the shower. The only thing we have to worry about is not getting our phones wet!

3)   The same goes for when you're washing dishes or cooking.

Okay, so not all of us cook and some guys don't ever get to wash dishes. But if you do any of these, having your phone within arm's reach so you can select a fitting tune can either make the cooking experience more enjoyable and the dishwashing more tolerable.

4)   It makes you more suabe in the bedroom.

The wife/girlfriend not feeling the music? Now you won't have to get up just to find a more romantic tune. Just fumble through the sheets for your phone, and find the right Spotify playlist.

5)   It's a great little party toy.

All your friends can connect easily connect to the device to share new tunes to the group without ever getting up from your inuman table. No more constant plugging and unplugging of AUX wires!

6)   No need to disconnect when you're about to leave home.

When you're ready to leave, just leave. The Bluetooth connection disconnects automatically at a certain distance, and the speaker automatically enters rest mode after 10 minutes of connetion-less inactivity.

7)   The absence of wires simply look cleaner!

You're going to hate your audio system's jumble of wires that you used to see on a daily basis.

8)   We like rubbing this thing.

Watch the white LED light up to indicate the volume as we control it via the touch panel. Fancy!

At first, the prospect of going from wired to wireless doesn't seem all that exciting. But once you've gone through a month without the daily routine of having to plug/unplug your phone or other audio device, the task becomes a routine should you go back to a wired system. Really, once you've tasted the freedom that a Bluetooth setup affords us, the other option feels like you're literally on a leash. This is especially true for those among us who are trying out a wireless system for the first time.

The Harman/Kardon Aura is available now on for P18,879. For physical retailers, check out the Harman/Kardon Aura dealer list in the Philippines here.
