Believe it or not, Marvel Entertainment and top game developer Square Enix are teaming up.

That's right, the creators of the world's best superheroes and their counterparts in the game industry that made masterpieces like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and other RPG staples are joining forces to create an epic superhero game.

The big announcement was made through a video trailer on the Square Enix Faceboook page.

There’s not much details around yet about this but Marvel’s Stan Lee himself confirmed that it is going to be a game based on the popular Avengers franchise.

According to the Square Enix blog, they will also be working with top developers like Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider) and Eidos Montréal (Deus Ex).

“The Avengers project is a perfect example of how Marvel is making games a key part of the landscape for Marvel storytelling, alongside comics, television and film. We can only do this by matching our greatest Super Heroes with the world’s top developers,” Marvel Entertainment Senior Vice President Jay Ong said.

Aside from this, all we know is that the Avengers project will be independent from Marvel’s comics and movies.

Also, it seems like Square Enix is hinting that it will be a massive multiplayer online role playing game.

“The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come.”

Square Enix is set to release more details on the Avengers project in 2018.
