Samsung has finally and officially launched the Galaxy S III here in the Philippines and, as expected, the event was nothing short of spectacular, filled with drinks, music, great food and sounds, and a set worthy of a big time unveiling.
We had a great time but we're not here to talk about the production value, we're here to shower you with more deets about the quad-core bad boy that had us anticipating ever since we first heard of its coming. We've already talked about the Galaxy S III's innards here so we'll just give you the list below as a refresher on what it has under the hood.
- CPU: 1.4GHz Exynos 4 Cortex-A9 processor
- RAM: 1GB
- Capacity: 16/32GB
- Display: 4.8-inch Super AMOLED(1280 x 720)
- Platform: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
- Imaging: 8-megapixel main camera with autofocus, flash, 1080p HD video, 1.9-megapixel secondary shooter
- Wireless connectivity: Wi-Fi, LTE (regional), 3G, Bluetooth
As for looks, the Galaxy S III slightly deviates away from the more "blockish" Galaxy S II with its slight curves. Actually, it reminded us more of the Galaxy Nexus. In terms of feel, it's quite robust (and we expect nothing less from a handset of its stature) despite weighing just 133g. It's also really slim, measuring just 8.6mm thick.
As for pricing and availability, we've already known that both Smart and Globe will be carrying the device (click here for the former's offer and here for the latter's). What we didn't know yet before the event was how much it will go for without a postpaid plan, and our question has finally been answered. Techies, the Galaxy S III will set you back for P32,990, right within the price range that got the most votes in our recent poll. That's also the same SRP of the other quad-core handset that's already locally available, the HTC One X. Now that could make choosing between the two more interesting. Anyway, you could check out the gallery below for in-the-flesh photos of the Galaxy S III.
