Ah, MySpace. Once an ultra-popular site that stood toe-to-toe with Friendster atop the social-networking pantheon, it's now desperately trying to survive amidst the continuing onslaught that is Facebook. But even if its glory days are long gone, the site still refuses to wave the proverbial white flag. In other words, buhay pa ang MySpace! Case in point: the site's decision to get a makeover.
Based on this teaser video, the new look MySpace, um, looks a lot different from its previous versions. It seems to be cleaner, simpler, with less clutter, and armed with a more minimalist approach. It actually looks good, if you ask us. As expected, the emphasis on music remains to be significant, with a dash of interactivity (i.e. music and artist search, view activities in artist pages, playlist creation) thrown into the mix, probably to help differentiate it from the rest of the pack.
Another thing that we noticed is that photos now take more of the display real-estate. We bet this is MySpace's way of giving the spotlight on you and your activities more than anything else. There's also a new grid layout for posts for easy navigation.
This is not the first time MySpace decided to shed its skin big time. Back in 2009, it decided to go through a similar route in an effort to woo users back to its fold. Only time will tell if this new remodel will translate into renewed success or if it will go Friendster's way or, worse, finally succumb to the pressure and bid us all goodbye.
On a related note, here's an interesting cartoon detailing the woes of a would-be MySpace quitter.
