RUMOR: LG is coming up with another flagship smartphone

Aimed at the Samsung Galaxy S III?

It looks as though the Korean rivalry is heating up once again as we're now hearing reports that LG is prepping up another superphone (known simply as D1L) of its own that's aimed at, yes, Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S III.

This intrigued us a bit. A few months back at the MWC 2012, LG took the wraps off the quad-core Optimus 4X HD which was declared as the Korean-titan's newest flagship. If the D1L is indeed made to compete with the Galaxy S III, it should have the hardware to do so, specs that would make it another flagship on LG's side. So, we could be looking at two different LG superphones, each sporting top-tier mobile goodies. Speaking of hardware, the D1L is rumored to have a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip (not quad-core like on the Optimus 4X HD), a 4.7-inch, 1280 x 720-pixel display, LTE connectivity, and Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

Word has it that the device will be unveiled soon, maybe next month, potentially within range of the Galaxy S III's own launch. The thing is, nothing's confirmed yet so we'll be keeping this in the rumor file for now but we won't be surprised if the D1L sees the light of day soon. As they say, when there's smoke, there's fire, right?
