Well, how about that? It looks like good ol' Samsung's Chrome OS parade is not yet done as the company has just unveiled the new version of the Series 5 Chromebook and another device called the Chromebox which is also based on Google's web-centric platform.

We actually first saw the Series 5 Chromebook last year and we are curious on what upgrades this year's version has in store. For starters Sammy decided to go with a dual-core Celeron chip (the predecessor came with an Atom CPU) and increase the amount of RAM to 4GB. Internal real-estate is taken cared of by a 16GB SSD which might be small but also expected since cloud-based storage will be a focus here. The new Series 5 Chromebook's display stayed at 12.1 inches and packs a resolution of 1280 x 800. In terms of looks, the newcomer is very identical to the first-gen model and weighs roughly the same at 3.3 pounds.

Meanwhile, the Chromebox boasts the same Intel Celeron chip and amount of RAM. Connectivity via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Ethernet is also part of the deal although obviously you'll be missing out on packaged peripherals like a keyboard and display. Speaking of the display, the Chromebox comes with HDMI, DVI, and VGA ports and can connect to up to two 30-inch external displays.

But what we're really excited about is the significant change in the Chrome OS itself. Google has updated it so users can have a more traditional experience using it, with a windowed look and with apps running simultaneously in the background. Also, Google Drive is in the mix as well while the Big G says more offline support will come to the platform so you can use devices running it more even if there's no Internet connection.

You can get both devices via online retailers in the UK and the US. Pricing is at $450 (about P19,600) for the base version of the Series 5 Chromebook while the Wi-Fi+3G variant's SRP is $550 (about P24,000). The Chromebox, on the other hand, will set you back for $330 (about P14,400). No word yet if the duo will hit local stores in the future. We'll be keeping watch.
