The local telco wars could be seeing another player next year, and the newcomer ain't no small fry! Corporate titan San Miguel Corp. has announced its intention to set up a mobile telco business next year!

Adding a new player into the local telco mix will be interesting. For one, the MVP-owned Smart Communications and Ayala-led Globe will have to contend with a new rival that undoubtedly has the resources to succeed. On the other hand, having a new telco to choose from means more options for consumers. And you know what they say about competition: It breeds innovation!
Here's what SMC's current Chief Operating Officer, Ramon Ang, has to say about their entry into the telco industry: "There's still room for another player." A man of few words, Mr. Ang is. But, yeah, we hear you, sir!
As for how this relates to Wi-Tribe Broadband, which is under Liberty Telecoms, another unit under the San Miguel conglomerate? The new telco will be a separate entity, with Wi-Tribe still focusing on the empire's broadband offerings.

Can't get more official than that! However, that's all we know right now. Heck, we even don't know what it will be called! But, given our playful minds, we conjure a few scenarios that we want to see happen with the arrival of SMC's new telco.
