So this morning, PLDT chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan made a huge announcement that made a lot of smartphone-toting folks do a slow clap: Free Internet for all Smart, Sun, and Talk 'N Text prepaid subscribers! Yehey!
Sounds too good to be true? Don't worry, it's certainly legit or else we wouldn't be saying this:
So, for Smart, Sun, and Talk 'N Text prepaid users, go crazy and try it out! But before you go on a mobile surfing rampage, here are a few things you should know first:
IT'S FREE, BUT NOT UNLI
We like the fact that it's free, but don't mistake it for unlimited Internet. There's a data cap of 30MB per day and once you hit it, Smart will notify you that you've used up your daily allowance. The telco will also suggest you try out their other Internet packages to continue your mobile surfing spree.
IT'S A DAILY THING
To max the heck out of it, you'll need to register daily since your subscription to the service is only good for 24 hours. All you have to do is text FREE to 9999, wait for a confirmation that you're in, and...that's it! Internet galore!
IT ALLOWS YOU TO ACCESS A HUGE PART OF THE INTERNET
Compared to other free online services that only allow access to one or two sites (e.g. Facebook and Twitter), this one will let you access social media sites like Instagram, search for stuff via sites like Google and Yahoo!, and even check your email. Sweet!
NAVIGATION APPS ARE PART OF IT, TOO!
Yes sir! According to Smart, prepaid subscribers will be able to use services such as Google Maps, Waze, and Uber via the promo. So if you find yourself about to take on car-mageddon, rest assured that this service will allow you to outsmart traffic and other commuters without burning a penny.
LIVESTREAMING AND TORRENTS, NOT INCLUDED
Nope, you won't be able to view J. Lo shaking her tushie on YouTube, nor DL that video via torrents sites. Live-streaming and peer-to-peer services are not part of this service. Bummer. But hey, it's not as if you can squeeze all that content out of your 30MB daily allocation, right?
IT HAS AN EXPIRATION DATE

This free prepaid Internet service is now rolling, but it will end on November 30. That's over two months of mobile prepaid surfing minus the lingering question, "May load pa ba ako pang-Facebook?" As they say, good things come to an end, so sulitin niyo na!
Note: Again, to register, text FREE to 9999. Minimum P1 load balance required!
