Yep, we're addicted, alright. We're on social media the moment we wake up, and all the way to bedtime. We go online, comment, preen and mouth off so much; we get to have events like Social Media Day!

All that time spent on social media can lead to awesome things, and we're not just talking about citizen journalism, rescue/relief ops, and awareness campaigns (and other, slightly unrelated but sexier events like No Panty Day and No Bra Day). Every post, Like, tweet, and retweet will add up—and lead to awesome records.

Well, this means we help other people set records, but maybe one day you'll set your own, too (and hopefully, for something amazing!). Behold now, eight records that were set on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Keep tapping on that screen and maybe you'll be on this list someday, too!

MOST RETWEETED TWEET

Record-Holder: Ellen DeGeneres

At this year's Academy Awards, universally loved TV host Ellen DeGeneres managed to answer the very important question of how many people can fit in a selfie (okay, groupfie). Her photo—featuring 11 celebrities and an Oscar winner's brother—set Twitter on (figurative) fire, generating more than 2.6 million retweets within the same day, not to mention an astounding 779,295 retweets in one hour. Grabe lang!

Also, three interesting tidbits: As of today, July 5, the retweets stand at 3.4 million, cinema and theater legend Liza Minnelli tried to get in on the action but was denied, and some legal eagles think Bradley Cooper should be the copyright owner. C'mon guys, stop the bickering! Where's the fun in that?

MOST POSTS DURING A LIVE EVENT

Record-Holder: Everyone who updated during the 2014 FIFA World Cup...?

Whenever there's a sporting event as big as the World Cup, you know people will watch regardless of time zone—and be as emotional as the players themselves. According to Facebook, there have been one billion World Cup-related interactions done by 220 million people on the social media platform from June 12-29. On Twitter, users sent a record-setting 16.4 million tweets during the Brazil vs. Chile match.

Since the event's still ongoing, expect new records to be set in the coming days. And gents, better talk to your lady loves; we bet they've seen you looking at our list of hot footballers at the 2014 World Cup. You may need to reaffirm your affection for them. #BoomPogi

Record-Holder: Farmers Insurance

When running a promotion on Facebook, think of Farmers Insurance (an insurer group of automobiles, homes, and small businesses). The company ran one with Zynga on June 2011, and achieved 2,047,058 Likes in one full day, along with six million views. The feat didn't just set a Facebook first—it also landed a spot on the Guinness World Records. We Like.
