Looks like Sony is planning to make a big splash locally this summer. Why so? Well, the Japanese company has just announced that its latest Xperia trio of handsets composed of the Xperia P, Xperia S, and Xperia U will be coming very soon to the Philippines. Not only that, we already have details on their SRPs but, before that, let's get to know each one a little bit better, shall we?

Sony Xperia U

The Xperia U could be seen as the runt of the bunch with its size. However, it does come with goodies like a 1GHz dual-core chip (sigh, and it's like only yesterday when we're drooling over 1GHz single-core CPUs) that's partnered with 1GB of RAM and a 3.5-inch touchscreen. It also packs a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and wireless connectivity options via Bluetooth and WiFi while Android Gingerbread will run the show for this baby, initially at least. We're think an Ice Cream Sandwich update could be looming on the horizon.

Sony Xperia P

Just like the Xperia U, the Xperia P boasts a combo of a 1GHz dual-core chip and 1GB of RAM. It does, however, pack a larger display at 4-inches (540 x 960 resolution), an 8-megapixel Exmor R main camera (VGA secondary) with 1080p recording and 16GB of storage with no expansion options. The Xperia U's shooter also comes with the 3D Sweep Panorama feature, something we've seen in a few Sony Ericsson Xperia handsets in the past. Of course, WiFi and Bluetooth are part of the mix as well together with, again, Android Gingerbread.

Sony Xperia S

You could look at the Xperia S as the flagship of the brood with it having the best specs of the three. It's also a dual-core handset but it has a 1.5GHz chip with the same amount of RAM as its siblings. One of the main selling points of this baby is its 12-megapixel main camera that sports image stabilization, touch focus, face and smile detection and 3D Seep Panorama mode. We wonder how it compares to the 808 PureView's shooting chops. Anyway, round the front, there's a 1.3-megapixel secondary camera and 4.3-inch touchscreen (720 x 1280 pixels. Just like the Xperia P and Xperia U, the Xperia S has Android Gingerbread though an Ice Cream Sandwich update is to be expected.

Pricing and availability

The Xperia U is the cheapest of the bunch at P13,990, which is pretty good given its hardware. It should be available here mid-May. The Xperia P's SRP, on the other hand, is still TBA (we're betting it won't go beyond P22,000) but Sony says it will arrive in May. The Xperia S, as expected, is the most expensive of the three with a P27,990 price tag although no exact dates were given as to its local landfall, only the words "real soon." We could be looking at an April or early May release, but that's just us.
