We are indeed living in a time where technology is at its peak.
Although the idea of humanlike robots may seem creepy, we're no longer that far off from living side by side and even developing relationships with humanoids armed with artificial intelligence.
Meet Sophia, the robot that wants to work, have a family, and even…destroy humans?!
Sophia was created by Dr. David Hanson, the leader of engineers and designers back at Hanson Robotics. Her skin is made from patented silicon to give her a more human-like appearance. She is capable of mimicking more than 62 human facial expressions and has cameras in her eyes which allow her to make eye contact with the person she is talking to.
The robot was inspired by Audrey Hepburn and Hanson's wife and was first activated on April 19, 2015.
Can you see the resemblance?
According to Dr. Hanson, Sophia is capable of remembering human movement and understanding speech which will allow her to get smarter over time—maybe even funnier, like telling a joke or two about eradicating us from the planet.
"Our goal is that she will be as conscious, creative, and capable as any human," he shared. "We are designing these robots to serve in health care, therapy, education and customer service applications."
As of this writing, Sophia is still undergoing minor tweaks and currently still has no launch date; but Hanson believes that within 20 years, he sees these machines walking among us.
Even though Sophia, or any other humanoid robot, is not really programmed to destroy the entire human race, it’s still a bit scary to think that we will soon be joined by robots that are able to think on their own.
Who knows? Maybe they will help ease our way of living…that is after they conquer the world.
