Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions blends together four universes from the Marvel Comics multiverse, it gives players the unprecedented chance to play four different “Spider-Men” in one game.
Players will be able to control four versions of the creepy crawler: the Amazing Spider-Man’s classic red and blue outfit, Spider-Man Noir’s 1940s mafia-inspired costume, the futuristic Spider-Man 2099, and the symbiote-inspired Ultimate Spider-Man.
You can blame it—some would say credit it— on the destruction of the Tablet of Order and Chaos for making this amazing collaboration possible.
A modern-day clash between Spider-Man and Mysterio caused it to break and alter the Marvel Universe.
Called upon by Madame Web from various universes are these four, with a mission to bring back the realities into balance.
But with four Spideys come a tank load of even more villains, also coming from alternate universes.
As if playing with several web-slingers ain’t awesome enough, each version you use will have its unique set of fighting techniques.
The Amazing Spider-Man is known for web-attacks, and so he does in this game. He uses the web-hammer, a move that uses his webbing to grab any object in your environment. In this world he must face Juggernaut, Kraven the Hunter, and Sandman.
Spider-Man Noir will be credited for his stealth attacks, doing it ala-Tenchu by ambushing the enemy from behind. The screen also turns into black and white to indicate that Noir Spidey is in stealth mode. Hammerhead, Boomerang, and Calypso serve as the enemies.
Spider-Man 2099 comes off as the acrobatic type, wearing a hi-tech suit that gives him accelerated vision and faster-than-the-average-Spidey combat skills. Hobgoblin, Vulture, and Doctor Octopus make an appearance in this universe.
Ultimate Spider-Man on the other hand uses his symbiote suit to execute Venom-like spikes and tendrils coming from his symbiote body. In this universe our hero crosses paths with Deadpool, Electro, and the psychotic Carnage.
Shattered Dimensions will also feature a first-person perspective at certain sequences. By using the analog sticks, you can control Spider-Man’s arms in POV mode and finish off the enemy yourself.
The game’s graphics are eerily similar to the forthcoming Marvel vs. Capcom 3, featuring an animated but nonetheless three-dimensional-looking Spider-Man.
The action sequences are just as promising, but then again we’ve long been impressed by this series when the Spider-Man 3 video game came out.
Unlockable Spidey costumes are also getting us quite excited, with the likes of Iron Spider-Man, Secret War Spider-Man, and Manga Spider-Man encouraging us to finish the game as many times as necessary.
