The giant annual expo brings together some of the world's biggest tech brands for one, glorious aim: show the world the key advancements in mobile tech through the launch of next-gen gadgets. Have you seen Nokia's Android phones? How about Sony's super thin and light, waterproof quad-core tablet? This geek festival makes us feel so much closer to Marty McFly's self-lacing shoes and flying cars.

But amidst the growing number of new gadgets being unveiled at the MWC, three devices stand out. These three had us smashing our piggy banks to check if we had enough cash for a new phone. These three made our current handsets look mundane by comparison. These three are the future of mobile phones.

Ladies and gents, say hello to the first superphones of 2014: The LG G2 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S5, and Sony Xperia Z2. Get to know more about them better below!

1. LG G PRO 2

One of the latest mobile gadgets from LG, the G Pro 2 can be classified as a phablet, with its gargantuan 5.9-inch display. But it's more than just a device with a hella big screen; this bad boy has awesome hardware under the hood, bannered by a 2.26GHz quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, LTE, and 32GB of capacity. Think of it as the bigger, meaner version of the LG G2 (which also impressed us).

One of the biggest draws of this year's MWC is the announcement of the hotly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S5. Its impressive hardware is a given: quad-core chip, Full HD display, 2GB of RAM, and full wireless connectivity. But what made it really special were its unexpected features: water-resistant and dust-resistant frame and fingerprint scanner.

Sony's also unveiled a new superphone at the MWC. The Xperia Z2 (check out its tablet bro here) is another premium piece of Sony gadgetry. Aside from looking all sleek and macho with its glossy rectangular facade, its innards can compete with the best of them: quad-core processor, 20.7-megapixel camera, 3GB of RAM, and, just like the Galaxy S5, it isn't afraid to get wet.

These three will be at the forefront of the smartphone wars this year. But which of them is the best? We try to answer that million-dollar question by comparing the superphones' full specs. Check out the techie tale of the tape on the next page!
