Team Liquid has emerged as the champions of The International 2017 (TI7) Dota 2 competition, which concluded the intense and grueling two-week tournament of the largest game in e-sports.

The European team was crowned victorious after dominating Chinese team Newbee 3-0 in the tournament’s best of five Grand Finals.

With this, Team Liquid set a record by being the first team to successfully complete a sweep in the Grand Finals.

The five-man squad composed of Lasse Urpalainen (MATUMBAMAN), Amer Al-Barkawi (Miracle-), Ivan Borislavov Ivanov (MinD_ContRoL), Maroun Merhej (GH) and team Captain Kuro Salehi Takhasomi (KuroKy) took home a whopping $10,806,301 or roughly half a billion pesos.

They are also the first team to make a come back and win it all after being eliminated from TI7’s Upper Bracket in the first round.

Team Liquid initially came from the Loser’s Bracket, where they defeated team LFY in the Semi-Finals. Team LFY is the Chinese squad that defeated our very own TNC Pro Team.

Despite their loss, TNC went home like winners with $358,508 (roughly P18 million). Meanwhile, Pinoy team Execration was knocked out in the tournament’s early stages and went home with $119,435 (roughly P6 million).

We didn’t really see a lot of action from our hometown heroes, but they definitely did their best and represented the country with pride. Hopefully, we will see more of them and other Pinoy teams in next year’s tournament, and perhaps witness the first-ever Dota 2 Filipino champions.
