TNC Throws 'Dota' Grand Final, Shows e-Sports Is Still Fun

The Kuala Lumpur Major Qualifiers Grand Final was a contest between two teams with Pinoys on the roster: Fnatic, with Abed and DJ, versus the all-local boys of TNC. The qualifier rules state that the top two teams qualify for the major–meaning the "grand" final was pretty much non-bearing since both teams were already in before the game even started! There is still the matter of getting a better seed by winning (which should have been decided by the prior games anyway) but TNC had something more important on their mind: it was team captain Kuku's birthday and allegedly, the plan was to end quick so they could go celebrate instead of playing out a pointless game.

What followed was a game-long 5v4 in the mid lane in the grand tradition of trashy SEA region DotaThen there was a call for a collaborative 9-man attack on Roshan, which turned out to be a bait. But everyone was still game enough to go again after TNC promised to behave.

The 12-minute spectacle disturbed some fans (how can two pro teams monkey around at this level!?) but for most viewers, it just showed that these way better—and richer—Dota players are still humans playing video games at the end of the day. It also showed that despite being Southeast Asian rivals, the two teams still share a sense of camaraderie with each other. Now we don't expect these kinds of moments regularly, but imagine if we get stuff like this in the NBA or something.
