Local geeks, here's something nice that will cheer you up even more this payday weekend: Xiaomi is officially heading to the Philippines! And it will bring with it a smartphone that's hot enough to be part of your wish list!
"Xiao-what?" you say?
For the uninitiated, Xiaomi is a hugely popular Chinese gadget brand that's hit it big in the land of the Great Wall. They're reportedly selling more smartphones than Apple in China and is behind only titans Lenovo and Samsung in terms of market share in the country. Not bad for a company with a tongue-twister of a name, 'no?
And, yes, the brand's setting up shop here! The news came straight from Xiaomi's VP for International Operations, Hugo Barra, so this is legit. He says that the Philippines is now part of their international expansion, which also includes other countries in Southeast Asia like Malaysia and Singapore. BTW, the dude's a former Google executive and was one of the brains behind Android's development (he was its former VP for product management) so he knows what he's talking about.

Now about that smartphone Xiaomi is going to bring here first. It's called the Mi 3, a quad-core superphone that has three things going for it: fantastic specs, good size, and a polished, pang-mayaman facade. Here, have a look:
As Xiaomi's current flagship phone, the Mi 3 packs: a 5-inch Full-HD display with IPS (for more viewing angles), a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor (one of the best in the business), 16GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera (2-megapixel front shooter), and a large 3,050mAh battery. All that in a really slim magnesium alloy frame that's just 8.1mm thick. Yowzah!
