Getting to work nowadays can be quite the hassle. The growing traffic problem has made the daily commute hard to bear. And if you sum up the number of hours you’re stuck in traffic every day, it would probably total at least six hours. Just add two more hours, and that’s already the same amount of time you clock-in for your full-time job.

The good news is you don’t have to sacrifice six hours of your entire life getting from point A to point B. There are job options that allow an individual to maximize their time, and some of them can even be done from the comfort of your own home.

If you're starting to get worn down by bad drivers, traffic jams, and road rage, here are some professions that you might want to consider pursuing.

If you’re fluent in speaking a foreign language, then you’re in luck! There are companies looking for people who can deal with tedious transcribing. "I do it in the comfort of my own home," says translator Gema Ruiz. "The job is hard but I'm just thankful that I don't have to deal with the traffic along EDSA." Some employers are willing to pay at least P2355 to translate documents or texts with a 500-600 word count. Cha-ching!

The rates for tutors depend on the company and the difficulty of the subject you will be teaching. The salary usually ranges from P130 to P300 per hour. If you work six hours a day, you can earn roughly P1800 and assist a struggling student while you're at it. "I really look forward to seeing my students," according to part-time tutor Christian Arranz. "The experience is worth it compared to a full-time job where you have to face the dreaded rush hour."

There are full-time and part-time positions for this work. Just do your best to browse the internet during your spare time. It's good practice if you want to experiment with this type of work.

Virtual Assistant

Do you like multi-tasking? Do you also enjoy the perks of working far away from your boss? If so, then this will suit your needs. A virtual assistant basically responds to urgent tasks from an unseen boss, doing the usual internet research and online data entry. This type of work can land you at least P15,000 a month depending on the company that hires you. "I used to have a full-time job while moonlighting as a virtual assistant, but due to the time wasted travelling to work every single day, I decided to quit and just stick with my home-based job," said Tracy Diaz who has been a virtual assistant for a year. "Sure, it doesn't have the benefits of a full-time job, but at least I'm not travelling from Parañaque to Ortigas and back anymore."
