La Union captivates travelers with its easygoing charm and how much it can feel like home. This northern coastal town is home to many surfers, artists, independent and sustainable businesses—interesting people you could meet during your stay and hear countless lessons and experiences from. It is the place to unwind, party, learn new things, and gain new friendships, all while getting a tan!

The nightlife is definitely found in Flotsam and Jetsam’s grounds, but that doesn’t mean that that’s the only place you can book a room in to have a great time. We found these hidden surf town gems to amp up your Elyu getaway:

For the art lovers: Bahay na Bato

Starts at P3,999 a night, good for 4 people

It’s a 30-minute ride from San Juan, but travelling to Bahay na Bato is just a breeze with plenty of buses traversing MacArthur Highway. A bungalow built inside this stone museum’s compound is being rented out on Airbnb. Here you can appreciate the scene of a beautiful garden landscape, the harmonious marriage of wood and stone, and the cathartic sight of humungous waves and a colorful sunset on its pebble-lined beach.

For the adventurers: Camp Avenue

Starts at P1,725, good for 2 people

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to camp out on a beach? At Camp Avenue, tents are pitched on the shore for a good overnight experience. A little warning though, this experience doesn’t offer much comfort and should be left to individuals willing to “rough it out,” as the owners call it. On the plus side, they serve free breakfast!

Hammocks are the way to go when all the bunk beds have been taken. You can really experience that serene beach vibe on it, as you’re rocked by the sea-salt breeze. It’s pretty basic, but we promise it’s not that bad.
