It’s a sad day for fans of the hit shounen ‘90s anime-manga series Rurouni Kenshin after its author, Nobuhiro Watsuki was caught red-handed with possession of child pornography.

According to Kotaku, authorities found explicit DVDs of underage girls at both Watsuki’s office and residence in Tokyo.

The bust came after authorities were tipped that the 47-year-old mangaka purchased DVDs of nude teenage girls with some as young as 15 years old. Watsuki has also been quoted admitting to investigators that he had a preference for elementary and junior high school girls.

Watsuki is currently facing up to a year of jail time or a fine of one million yen (roughly P450,000).

This development comes as Rurouni Kenshin, which is more popularly known as Samurai X in the country, recently launched a new arc after the manga’s 18-year hiatus. However, it looks like we won’t be seeing Battousai’s killer swordstyle anytime soon due to this incident.

Meanwhile, fans of the samurai-themed series have expressed a mix of sadness, confusion and even disgust over the news.

Check out these shocked reactions

Some have distanced themselves from Watsuki’s works

While others continue to show support for the series

We hope we’re wrong and Watsuki somehow makes amends and redeems himself but this might actually be it for Rurouni Kenshin.
