People will do anything to get famous, these days. There are some who join “talent” shows like Talentadong Pinoy, GMA 7’s Diz Is It, or ABS-CBN’s Showtime. [firstpara] Some, like the lipsyncing duo, Moymoy Palaboy, strut their stuff on Youtube.
But what if you’re not ready to let go of your dignity by joining the said talent shows? Or what if you’re Youtube gimmick only lets you go as far as 87 hits? Well, count on patience to be your ticket to stardom.
Take for instance, this Canadian native, Gary Duschl, who has built a chain made only of gum wrappers that spans 12 freaking miles. According to the Ripley’s website, that’s “42 times the height of the Empire State Building, as long as 210 football fields, and twice as long as the height of Mount Everest.”
If not a world record (which it is), it’s in the very least, another reason for Americans to poke fun at their neighbors up north. He recently had it up on exhibit at Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Odditorium in Times Square last March 10. Had we been there to see it, the only comment we could have come up with is this: “That’s a lot of gum wrappers.”
Gary started out when he was 14 years old, and has been doing it for 45 years. He says he still plans to double the chain’s length, which is now currently composed of around 1,500,000 wrappers.
He’s going to need more, obviously, so if you want to be part of this thing, you’ll find the details on how to donate your gum wrappers on his website. He works on the chain an hour a day, and claims to have “a very understanding wife.” Either that or the wife’s also just a bit crazy.
Here now are 4 more insane “longest” world records.
Lee Redmond - World’s Longest Fingernails
The length: Each fingernail measured around 30 inches. Sum length of all fingernails: 24 feet, 7.8 inches.
Origin Story: In late 1978, this woman from Salt Lake City, Utah just suddenly decided to grow her nails. In February 2009 however, her nails were broken in a car accident, thus losing the world record.
