Monday, November 8 saw ex-VP Noli De Castro return to his broadcaster roots, headlining the longest-running primetime news program TV Patrol for the first time in nine years.

That is, after De Castro left TV Patrol in 2001 to enter the world of politics, where he served as Senator for three years and then was voted as our country’s Vice President the following six.

Kabayan is joined by veteran broadcasters Ted Failon and Korina Sanchez, who herself is making a broadcast news comeback after stepping down in 2009 to support husband and former Vice Presidential candidate Mar Roxas.

“Siyam na taon ako sa gobyerno, at siyam na taon ko ding na-miss ang TV Patrol,” says Noli in an interview with The Buzz Sunday evening. “Ako’y nagpapasalamat at nabigyan ulit ng pagkakataon na makabalik.”

Noli De Castro has pioneered our generation’s memories of the most significant moments in news casting. Here in turn, are five things we miss about our dear Kabayan:

"Magandang gabi, bayan"
Every acclaimed newscaster has a distinct trademark rolled up their sleeve: Mike Enriquez’ signature conviction, Rey Langit’s weighty voice, and Noli De Castro's "Magandang gabi, bayan. Those three words, which has served and now continue to serve as his parting words have generated such a recall a weekend program became a must! Now that's a true testament of its awesomeness, really.

The MGB Halloween Specials
Almost synonymous with Halloween weekend is the thought of Noli De Castro and his  MGB Halloween specials. Giving credibility to these horror stories is De Castro himself, who has made it a habit of appearing from a foggy cemetery ready to blurt out his scariest rendition of the words “magandang gabi, bayan.” He then disappears and TV viewers start screaming in fear.
