Yao Ming's career could possibly be over as the former no. 1 pick in the 2002 draft has just suffered another season-ending injury— a stress facture in the left ankle. [firstpara]
The injury is said to be related to last season's reconstructive surgery performed on the same foot.
Even if he does return to the court next season, it is going to take nothing short of a water-into-wine miracle for Yao to become the monster he once was. And that is something that Yao and his legions of fans in China and the whole world will just have to swallow like a bitter pill.
Now, we'll all just have to watch Youtube videos if we were to witness just how skilled this gentle giant was before the torrent of injuries robbed him of his true potential.
Yao Ming though isn't the only one whose career was hit with serious injuries. Here are six more players who could have accomplished so much more had they been able to stay healthy.
Penny Hardaway was as skilled as Magic Johnson, as electrifying as Michael Jordan, and in his prime, had as much court savvy as Larry Bird.
Too bad that the "prime" phase never lasted long because in the 2000-01 NBA season, he injured his knee, and had microfracture surgery. He still played until 2008, but the magic just wasn't there anymore.
